This year has served up a lot of surprises, and even disappointments… But it also has given us a unique opportunity to find joy in the little things. For me, this meant spending more time exploring the place I’ve called home for nearly 26 years.
The trail highlights all the adventures between two national parks that are 40 miles apart. You can experience it coming or going, it’s totally cool no matter which way you begin.
After your visit to the granddaddy of them all, Mammoth Cave National Park, you’ll want to check out some of the “show caves” in the area. While most people think if you’ve seen one cave you’ve seen them all, locals know that every cave has its own personality, just like your children.

Are you brave enough to try this? The Hidden River Cave Wild Cave Tour takes you off-trail in an extreme option that involves strenuous hiking through muddy and wet cave passages and features an underground stream, domed rooms, and cave-adapted animals.
