KID-APPROVED KENTUCKY DAY TRIP #5 – Fill your day with fun at Mammoth Cave National Park!

We’ve never seen Donavin smile so much as he, NaCari, Alyse, and Anna hit the trails at and alongside Mammoth Cave National Park.

Stop #1 – It was smiles and thrills for our Adventure Ambassadors as they began their day at Adventures of Mammoth Cave.  First stop was gearing up for the zipline through the treetops that surround the national park. The excitement built as they took the leap, and smiles erupted as they finished the 5-line course! For younger explorers, there is also a children’s course. There’s also a challenge course with ropes and towers.

Stop #2 – Now it was time to saddle up! Well, the horses were already saddled, but our Ambassadors hopped on and followed the guide along a winding trail through the trees around the edge of the park. Great for experienced or first-time riders! Exhilarating!

Stop #3 – On their way into the national park, the Ambassadors stopped for a quick photo op at the iconic Mammoth Cave National Park sign and short trail walk there to an overlook of Sand Cave where famous cave explorer Floyd Collins was trapped in 1925. The tree-lined boardwalk and interpretive signs along the way told the story.

Stop #4 – It was time for fueling up! A lunch stop in the national park to refresh at The Lantern Grill at The Lodge at Mammoth Cave topped off with sharing stories, smiles, and local ice cream was perfect! Then on to the visitor center to check out the exhibits before the next stop on the adventure.

Stop #5 – All of the trails at Mammoth Cave National Park are not underground! On this visit, our Ambassadors chose the accessible boardwalk trail around Sloan’s Crossing Pond Walk surrounded by beautiful countryside and charming wildlife. The trail around the pond is less than ½ mile long and loaded with cool nature encounters. They loved it so much that they circled around one more time to make sure they saw everything!

Stop #6 – After a full day of adventure, a comfy bed is so inviting. Hart County options include adventure lodging at Horse Cave KOA’s treehouses, teepees, Conestoga wagons, cabins, and rv sites. Other local choices are hotels and short-term rentals. Everything to help you choose your favorite can be found here. (https://kygetaway.com/attraction_category/stay/)
