KID-APPROVED KENTUCKY DAY TRIP #4 – Grab a paddle and search for waterfalls and blue holes!

Our Ambassadors NaCari, Anna, and Alyce headed down Green River on their way to adventure!

For information and downloadable maps about Hart County’s Green River and the 7 trip options with addresses, trip lengths, and sights along the way to help you plan your paddle, go here (https://kygetaway.com/attractions/paddling/)

Stop #1 – To get into a Green River vibe, our ambassadors traveled up US 31E a few miles to make a fuel-up stop at Green River Hill Grocery (Open Thursdays – Saturdays at 5685 N Jackson Highway, Munfordville). They sat down for a quick meal there and picked up some snacks for along the way.

Stop #2 – Choose your launch! Our adventurers contacted Fred at Lynn Camp Launch to provide their kayaks, canoes, and shuttle service to take them to their paddle from Harry Wilson Park down Hart County’s Blueway on the Green, one of the world’s most biologically diverse waterways with more than 42 species found nowhere else on earth! Some of our lazy floats take you past waterfalls or blue holes that indicate caverns below, and along greenways where you can see eagles soaring and some of the Green’s 70 species of mussels, many extremely rare.

Stop #3 – On their trip, our adventurers paddled past the Wilkerson Blue Hole on the 3.5-mile route from Harry Wilson Park to Thelma Stovall Park in downtown Munfordville, an area the pioneers called the Big Buffalo Crossing. This ancient crossing was used by Native Americans and bison for centuries. At Thelma Stovall Park, you can play paddleball, disc golf, check out the playground, try the walking trail, or have a picnic in one of several picnic shelters. You can also add a 4.5-mile hike along the river on the Jenny Wilson Byrd Memorial Trail that features small bluffs, wildflowers, springs and continuous views of the river.

Stop #4 – How about a sweet overnight at one of our Hart County lodging choices: Holiday Inn Express with hot breakfast bar, a large indoor heated swimming pool and a 24-hour fitness center? Or maybe Horse Cave KOA with treehouses, Conestoga wagons, teepees, cabins, RV sites, and a playground? Or what about one of our short-term lodging rentals? You can find all the info here. Hungry? Our adventurers are fans of  Farmwald’s Restaurant & Amish Bakery (3720 L&N Turnpike, Horse Cave) for Amish donuts, fry pies, baked goods, homemade cheesecake, huge pretzels, ice cream, and meals.
