Day #1 – Kangaroos, a Cave, and Amish Donuts – A Day Trip just a hop off Interstate 65!

For a fabulous day of outdoor adventure and animal encounters (What could be better?), this day trip to Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo to befriend more than 30 kangaroos and joeys, feed Rainbow Lorikeets and Emus, milk a cow, see sheepherding, and explore beautiful Mammoth Onyx Cave will be a special day out!
INSIDER TIP: We recommend renting the golf cart so that you can enjoy several hours of adventure in the 75-acre park.

Make sure you save some time to visit Farmwald Dutch Bakery & Deli located at the front of the Kentucky Down Under parking lot. Their deli sandwiches on homemade bread, burgers, breakfasts with luscious gravy and Amish Donuts and cheesecakes are heavenly. You can even take your food with you into Kentucky Down Under for a picnic! And you don’t want to miss the handcrafted items in the shop. Farmwald is closed on Sundays.

If you decide to add a day to visit nearby Hidden River Cave or Mammoth Cave National Park, there are lodging options just across the street including Holiday Inn Express, Quality Inn & Suites, and Horse Cave KOA with new Conestoga Wagons.
Located at 3700 L&N Turnpike, just off Interstate 65 Horse Cave Exit 58, Kentucky Down Under is just 1 hour south of Louisville, 30 minutes north of Bowling Green, and a little more than an hour north of Nashville. They are open daily year round except Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day or during extreme weather. Horse Cave is in the Central Time Zone.
