Trail riding on horseback

Mammoth Cave National Park has 60 miles of backcountry trails open for horseback riding. Located north of the Green River these trail provide views of big timber, caves, rivers, waterfalls, creeks and wildlife. The trails are a mix of wide smooth dirt paths that two riders can travel together to single file ridgeline trails.

For day-use horseback riding, riders can park trailers at the following trailheads on the north side of the park:  First Creek Trailhead, Lincoln Trailhead, Maple Springs Trailhead and Temple Hill Trailhead.

Overnight horseback camping is also available; one of the few locations in southern Kentucky. Riders can use the developed Maple Springs Campground, located 5 miles from the visitor center.

Guided horseback riding enables you to explore the area without transporting your own horse.  For riders of all abilities, Adventures of Mammoth Cave offers a one-hour scenic trail ride with panoramic views along the gentle Mammoth Cave hills.
