Who We Are
Horse Cave/Hart County Tourist Commission
The Horse Cave/Hart County Tourist Commission is the only county commission in the state that operates Tourist Information Centers in state rest areas. Through a contract with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, we staff the Tourist Information Centers at the two I-65 rest areas at the edge of Kentucky’s Cave Country, located at mile marker 60 in southern Hart County.
The information centers are staffed 7 days a week March through December and Friday, Saturday and Sunday in January and February. Interstate 65 is one of the nation’s busiest north-south corridors. More than 4 million people stop at these rest areas each year, and approximately 30% seek information. Our professionally-trained staff members welcome visitors, answer questions and distribute more than 1/3 million pieces of tourist information each year.
We also contract with the Caveland Marketing Association and the Cave Region to operate a Traveler Information Center in the Visitor Center at Mammoth Cave National Park where more than 500,000 people purchase cave tour tickets each year.
We are funded with a 3% lodging tax in the county and a 3% restaurant tax in Horse Cave that we use to promote the Horse Cave/Hart County area.
Executive Director Sandra T. Wilson is a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Masters in Public Administration, a graduate of Southeast Tourism Marketing College with a Tourism Marketing Professional Certification, a former board member of the Kentucky Tourism Industry Association with Advanced Marketing Certification, president of the Caveland Marketing Association, and past president of the Kentucky Association of Convention and Visitors Bureau and a member of the Southeast Tourism Society Board of Directors.
