Hidden River Cave
Featured on The Discovery Channel's "Dirty jobs" series, Hidden River Cave is an 8-mile labyrinth dissolved by a subterranean river flowing beneath the historic small town of Horse Cave. In 1867, famed naturalist John Muir called it "a noble gateway to the birthplace of springs and fountains and the dark treasures of the mineral kingdom." Guided tours descend 150 feet underground and last 45 - 50 minutes. An optional off-trail Wild Cave Tour, featured by Mike Rowe on The Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs” series, offers a close-up look at the wonders of the underground ecosystem. Zipline across or rappel down the region's largest cave entrance. The recovery of Hidden River Cave from pollution has been called the world’s best cave restoration. The adjacent American Cave Museum offers interactive exhibits.
